Our Mission: 'To make our industry quieter, safer and greener'

This plant will capture 40,000 tonnes of CO2 per year, which is equivalent to taking approximately 20,000 cars off the road. The captured CO2 will then be purified and liquified and use as a raw material for the production high grade sodium bicarbonate for use in pharmaceutical and food applications.

Problem

The challenge with this type of commodity is to ensure that the specified mass flow of flue gas is delivered to the carbon capture plant at the correct temperature, and pressure.

Solution

Cullum designed, manufactured, and installed around 150m metres of stainless steel ducting. The ducting was elevated to a height by structural steelwork to aid routing. Thermal expansion of the ducting was managed using flexible expansion joints and sliding feet design. Bleed/purge pipework and drainage system was also integrated into the design to enable safe, reliable operation of ducting system.

Unique Challenges

Integration of 2 separate flue supply inlets, combining them to a single outlet required careful analysis and design for thermal expansion .
