Our Mission: 'To make our industry quieter, safer and greener'
Problem/Ask:
The customer approached Cullum to render acoustic attenuation elements into a new bespoke Detuner that could be integrated within their existing and proposed new test facility. The Customer welcomed the acoustic solutions for the complete design, manufacture and installation of a Detuner system and Supporting steelwork.
Unique Challenges:
The Integration of a bespoke solution into an existing test cells parameter.
The Customer required an exhaust system muffler that would aid in the venting and damping of jet engine exhaust noise and gases; However, the customer is interested in relocating their testing facility elsewhere, therefore a proposal was requested to utilise a Detuner’s design over an Augmenter. The preferred use of a Detuner over an augmenter is stemmed from the Detuner being a separate component from the cell, which enables a smother removal and relocation process. Compared to an augmenter which is commonly encased within the test cell.
Solution/Proposal:
Cullum designed, manufactured, and installed a unique solution that is tailored to the customers current and future test facility’s capabilities. The exhaust Detuner, which projects an initial diameter of 2.5m to the stacks exit of 4.5m, consists of a Cascade bend with air turning vanes and a 5.7m Exhaust Stack, all supported by Florida building code compliant Steel Work.
The Customer now can perform further testing of jet engines within the operating conditions of their new Detuner.
