Working within the Projects Office, and reporting to the Head of Projects, you will be tasked with the ownership and delivery of the company’s ‘High Risk/High Value’ Projects and Programmes.


As such you will be fully responsible for the complete project lifecycle, with accountabilities to include:-

  • All aspects of project performance (for projects within your allocated group) - including adherence to budget and that delivery and quality requirements are exceeded. Also ensuring the final deliverable is complete to customer specification, and accompanied with the list of customer documentation.
  • Generation of project plans ensuring its alignment with project scope and objectives, and ensuring management and team buy-in to the plan
  • Reporting of the project plan to both internal and external stakeholders. Key information to include status to date, any deviations (with plans to recover), plus an overview of risk and opportunity. EVM techniques should be utilised to demonstrate ‘actual’ project progress versus the baseline
  • Ensuring invoices are promptly made against appropriate milestones, and that payment is made by customer in accordance with the contracted terms
  • Identification of key resources required to support delivery, and securing the release of that resource via liaison with other departments
  • Managing the customer relationship, supporting customer meetings, and being seen as the ‘go-to’ person for the customer in the event of escalations or issues
  • Full awareness of commercial terms and conditions under which the projects are being delivered
  • All aspects of project governance, ensuring kick off meetings and regular ‘working level’ meetings are held and minutes taken as required
  • Identifying and grading project risks via the company risk register, and recommending mitigating actions as appropriate. Escalation to senior management/Board in the event of a risk materialising.
  • Ensuring any lessons identified are recorded, and  implemented before commencement of next project
  • Maximising project revenues, and identifying opportunities for additional revenues/sales where appropriate
  • Ensuring any change is scope is captured, and project value amended accordingly via the change control process.
  • Development of Junior Project Management, via mentoring and the delegated management of ‘lower risk’ projects

Essential skills:-

  • Working knowledge of generic commercial frameworks, including potential impacts of liquidated and un-liquidated damages
  • Strong customer focus, and an good understanding of the balance between empathy with the customer issues and protecting the position of the company
  • Engineering ‘know-how’, to support communications with both customers and suppliers
  • Stakeholder Management
  • Understanding of forward selling, and an awareness of the currency markets and the impacts on running a global project
  • Earned Value Management concepts and reporting



  • Strong team working ethic and leadership skills, able to contribute to a dynamic group, working under own initiative and provide guidance to all members of the department and wider team as required.
  • Promote and represent Cullum when required, setting a good personal example at all times.
  • Take all possible and reasonable steps to create a harmonious working environment using effective communication and team working techniques
  • Good communicator (written and oral).
  • Strong health, safety, environmental and operational management, and an ability to motivate people for all aspects of the business to fulfil both business and project requirements.
  • Work to attain optimum performance within the Project Team and associated areas of responsibility.
  • Maximise the use of Cullum management control and IT systems to ensure accurate and auditable project control.


  • Educated to HNC Mechanical/Electrical or to an equivalent standard.


  • Educated to HND/BSc Mechanical/Electrical or to an equivalent standard.


  • Experienced in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. 
  • Understanding of Quality and Health Safety & Environmental operational systems.


  • 3 years previous experience in Project Engineer/Manager role.
  • Knowledge of project planning and systems.
